SOUTH INDIA TOUR I (21 days):

Goa - Badami - Hampi - Belur/Halebid - Mysore - Nagarhole National Park - Wynad (Tree Houses) - Cochin - Backwaters - Kovalam Beach - Goa

This South India tour takes you from the beautiful beaches of Goa along the fantastic monuments of Indian history to the famous Backwaters of Kerala. You will encounter ox-drawn carts in Karnataka, see bizarre rock formations in Hampi, wander through the deep Jungle in Nature Parks and visit the biggest Tibetan refugee camp in the South. No special requirements are necessary for this tour, but short hikes and sometimes long overland drives demand a certain uncomplicated and sporty attitude.

02 DAY Arrival Goa. Transfer Airport – Beach Resort. Relax on the beach. 

03 DAY Goa Beach Resort. Relax on the beach. Sightseeing in Old Goa/Panaji.

04 DAY Goa  – Badami. Transfer to Badami. Evening excursion to the spectacular caves of Badami.

05 DAY Badami – Aihole – Pattadakal - Hampi. Transfer to Hampi with visit of the temples of Pattadakal and Aihole on the way.

06 DAY & 07 DAY Hampi. Sightseeing of the Vijayanagar city ruins near the village of Hampi one of the most fascinating historical sites in South India.

08 DAY Hampi – Hassan (Belur/Halebid). Transfer to Hassan.

09 DAY Hassan (Belur/Halebid) - Mysore. Sightseeing of the Hoysala temples at Belur and Halebid near the city of Hassan. These temples are, along with the one in Somnathpur east of Mysore, the cream of what remains of the most artistically exuberant periods of Hindu cultural development. Transfer to Mysore.

10 DAY Mysore. Sightseeing of Mysore and visit of the Keshava Temple in Somnathpur.

11 DAY Mysore – Bylakuppe – Nagarhole National Park. Visit of Bylakuppe, one of the main Tibetan refugee settlements west of Mysore, which is the side of the monastic university, Sera Gompa. Transfer to Nagarhole NP, one of the most beautiful national parks of India

12 DAY Nagarhole NP. Safari of the park to see the spectacular wildlife.

13 DAY Nagarhole NP - Wynad. Early morning visit of the park. After breakfast transfer to Wynad.

14 DAY Wynad. Wynad lies in the cooler Western Ghats surrounded by tea-, coffee and spice plantations. Here you find the eco-project Green Magic Nature Resort with its treehouses. An ideal place for excursions in the Jungle around Wynad.

15 DAY Wynad – Cochin. Transfer to Cochin.

16 DAY Cochin. Sightseeing in Cochin. Evening visit of a Kathakali dance performance a traditional dance of the South.

17 DAY Cochin - Alapuzha. Transfer to Alapuzha. Enjoy a houseboat cruise to Kollam on Keralas famous Backwaters. Overnight on houseboat.

18 DAY Kollam – Kovalam. Transfer to Kovalam Beach. Relax in a Kovalam Beach Resort.

South India is the land of the cosmic dancer Nataraja as well as the land of thousand temples. Mentality, language, climate and landscape differ strongly from the North. The temples are no museums, but are daily visited by many pilgrims. Highlights of the temple architecture are the temples of the Chola-Dynasty in Thanjavur, the shore temple of Mahabalipuram and the Meenakshi-Temple in Madurai. Besides the temples South India offers a green landscape with mountain ridges, nature parks and beautiful beaches ready to be explored. An unforgettable experience is a cruise on the famous Backwaters of Kerala on a houseboat. 07 DAY Pondicherry - Tiruvannamalai. Day trip to the temple town of Tiruvannamalai. Of the more than 100 temples the most outstanding is the Siva-Parvati Temple of Arunachaleswar, which is said to be the largest in India.

08 DAY Pondicherry – Chidambaram - Thanjavpur. Drive through the countryside. Visit of the Nataraj Temple in Chidambaram on the way.

09 DAY Thanjavpur. Sightseeing of Thanjavpur the ancient capital of the Chola kings.

10 DAY Thanjavpur - Madurai. Transfer to Madurai and visit of the Meenakshi-Temples.

11 DAY Madurai - Thekkady (Periyar National Park). Drive in the Cardamom Hills along tea-, coffee, spice-, pepper- and cardamom plantations to Thekkady the gateway to Periyar National Park. Elephant, panther, sloth bear, bison, barking deer, sambar and a variety of birds can be found here.

12 DAY Thekkady. Visit of the park and boat trip on Lake Periyar.

South India in a nut shell with the option of one week extension in an ayurvedic Beach Resort

Madras - Mahabalipuram - Kanchipuram - Belur/Halebid - Mysore - Mudumalai National Park - Ooty - Cochin - Backwaters - Kovalam Beach - Madras

This tour passes through one of the most beautiful and diverse parts of India. Along the slopes of the hills leading to the Deccan-Plateau coffee, cardamom, pepper, rubber plants and cashew nuts are cultivated. A visit of the Mudumalai National Park and short hikes along the beaches of the Malabar Coast at the Arabian Sea will get you in close contact with nature and people. Highlights of the South Indian culture are the Royal City of Mysore and the world famous Hoysala-Temples of Belur and Halebid. Other highlights are a ride on the miniature train in the Nilgiri Hills and a boat cruise on the famous Backwaters of Kerala. An extension of one week in an Ayurvedic Beach Resort is optional.
