DELHI-MANALI-KEYLONG-DARCHA-PADUM-LAMAYURU-LEH-DELHI

The trek from Darcha to Lamayuru is strenuous and requires lots of will and stamina. The thrill includes trekking in the beautiful Zanskar region, the topography of which is compared to that of the moon. It involves crossing high passes and descending down to the river valleys before crossing yet another pass. The trek finally leads to Lamayuru monastery where the trek ends. Leh is 140 km from here.

Day 01

Arrive at Delhi international airport.

 

On arrival transfer to hotel in Delhi.

Day 02

Delhi – Manali

560 km

Drive to Manali by overnight regular tourist bus.

Day 03

Arrive Manali early morning.

 

Check in hotel.

Day 04

In Manali

 

Day at leisure.

Day 05

Manali – Keylong (3350 m)

115 km

Drive to Keylong over Rohtang Pass (3980 m). Crossing Rohtang Pass, we enter Lahul Valley. Night in hotel in Keylong.

Day 06

In Keylong

 

Acclimatization day. Walk to Buddhist monastery.

Day 07

Keylong – Darcha (3400m)

25 km

After breakfast drive to Darcha. Night in tents. 

Day 08

On trek. Darcha – Palmo (3600 m)

4 hr

We go through Chhikka and Rarig villages and cross a small wooden bridge over a deep gorge before reaching the Palmo camping ground. Night in tents.

Day 09

Palmo – Zanskar Sumdo (3750 m)

5 hr

6 hour walk crossing many small streams. Night in tents.

Day 10

Zanskar Sumdo – Chumik Nakpo (4250m)

5 hr.

Leaving Zanskar Sumdo, we cross a hanging bridge and enter Zanskar Valley. Chumik Nakpo is the base camp for Shingo-La (Pass) 5090 m.

Day 11

Chumik Nakpo – Shingo-La (5090 m) – Lakong (3400 m)

7 hr.

A steep three hours ascent takes us to the top of the pass and beautiful views of distant peaks of Himalayas. Another three to four descent to our camping place.

Day 12

Lakong – Kargiakah (3900 m)

6 hr.

The trek goes beneath the face of Gomborangoo Peak. Kargiakah is our first village in Zanskar and the region’s highest and most remote. Night in tents. 

Day 13

Kargiakah – Purne

6 hr

We cross two to three villages on the way to reach Purne. Purne is a small village with three to four houses. Night in tents.

Day 14

Purne – Phuktal Gompa- Purne

4 hr.

Phuktal gompa is off the main trail. A small trail along the Tsarp river with Chortens and religious banners leads us to Phuktal monastery. When viewed from a distance, the monastery looks like a beehive atop of a hill. Visit the monastery for about two hours, talk to the monks Return to Purne for the night.

Day 15

Purne – Pipul (3550 m)

6 hr.

Five to six hour walk alongside the river to Pipul. Night in tents.

Day 16

Pipul – Raru (3400 m)

5 hr

Five to six hours to Raru camping ground. Night in tents.

Day 17

Raru- Padum

6 hr.

Mune gompa and Bardan gompa are two Buddhist monasteries we visit today. We reach Padum, the capital of Zanskar, by afternoon. Night in camp or a hotel. Padum has a Muslim and Buddhist population and is linked by road to Leh via kargil

Day 19

Padum – Karsha

3 hr.

This short stage allows us to visit the monastery at Karsha, which is one of the most important in Zanskar region. In tents.

Day 20

Karsha – Pishu

5 hr.

From Karsha the trail descends gradually to Rnam village and then follows the bank of Zanskar river to Pishu. In tents.

Day 21

Pishu – Hanumil (3380m)

5 hr.

Hanumil comprises just a few houses and is at the mouth of an impressive side gorge. In tents.

Day 22

Hanumil – Snertse (3850m)

5 hr.

You cross Purfila (3950m) In tents.

Day 23

Snertse – Lingshed

6 hr.

5 to 6 hours walk. This day we cross Hanuman –La (4950m). The pass is marked by chortens and offers good views of Singe-la and the Zanskar range. The descent from the pass to Lingshed monastery is very steep. In tents.

Day 24

Lingshed to Base

5 hr.

To reach the base of Singe-la pass we have to cross two small passes so the trail goes up and down. In tents.

Day 25

Base – Singe-la- Photoksar (4200m)

6/7 hr.

The Singe-La (5050m) is the highest pass between Padum and Lamayuru. Photoksar is a small village with two monasteries. In tents.

Day 26

Photoksar- Sirsirla- Hanupatta

5/6 hr.

From Photoksar the trail ascends to Sirsir-la pass (4850m) which offers good views of Zanskar range and Singe-la backwards. The Buddhist chortens mark the nearness to hanupatta village (3760m). In tents.

Day 27

Hanupatta – Wanla

5 hr.

From hanupatta the trail descends gradually to reach Wanla village that is connected by road to Kargil –Leh road. In tents.

Day 28

Wanla – Lamayuru

3/4hr.

It takes three to four hours to reach Lamayuru monastery. Night in tents. Trek ends.

Day 29

Lamayuru- Leh By road

140 km

Drive from Lamayuru to Leh in the morning. On arrival check in hotel in Leh.

Drive by bus over Tanglang-la. Night in tents in Sarchu.

Sarchu – Manali

Continue the bus journey to Manali.Arrive Manali in the evening and check in hotel.

Day 34

Manali- Delhi

260 km

Overnight bus to Delhi.

Day 35

Arrive Delhi

 

Arrive Delhi early morning. Check in hotel. Day at leisure.

Day 36

Day trip to Agra.

 

Guided tour by a tourist bus to Agra and back to Delhi in the evening.  Transfer to international airport.
